Bio
Keller Remington, born in Denver, Colorado is a trumpet player raised in Las Vegas, Nevada, currently residing in the Baltimore-Washington D.C. area. Keller found a deep passion for the trumpet through his parents’ love of listening to a wide variety of music, such as The String Cheese Incident all the way to Miles Davis. While in high school at the Las Vegas Academy of the Arts, Keller was the recipient of 4 consecutive Downbeat Student Awards and performed alongside Grammy-nominated Las Vegas Icons, Clint Holmes and Frankie Moreno. At this time Keller was being taught by Wes Marshall, as well as Las Vegas native trumpet player, Kenny Rampton. Keller is finishing his undergraduate studies at The Peabody Institute under the direction of The Richard and Elizabeth Case Chair, trumpeter, composer, and educator, Sean Jones. Since moving to Baltimore, Keller teaches and performs frequently around the DMV area, New York-New Jersey, and back in Las Vegas. Keller hopes to continue the rich culture and tradition of music through his own sound and community outreach in Baltimore and beyond.
Artistic Statement
I am an artist. I am a student of art, a student of intention and expression. I play music, jazz music, self reflective music, instantaneously combusting with energy and self expressive music. Continuing this long standing, yet still very youthful and brittle tradition that is America's Classical music. Given that this music reflects self and the climate of social change it is important that I observe and maintain a sturdy position in the social world and what is going on in the community. I see this music as ever and rapidly changing and I hope to continue this tradition by being myself and adding my own little branch on the family tree of jazz. I do this as a form of expression as it speaks louder than words as well as it takes a certain level of academic understanding of the music to be able to portray a valid message which I will tirelessly study. However, at the end of the day, what you play is what you mean, as long as it is played with sincere intention it is you and it is valid and nothing less.
